About Jay D. Baumgardner
Jay is a Financial Advisor and Executive Director with J.P. Morgan Securities, the wealth management division of J.P. Morgan. As a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder, his business model is that of a professional money manager, advising high net worth individuals, who include business and former business owners, corporate executives, CPAs, attorneys and retirees. Recognizing that this business is highly personal, he adopts a consultative approach.
Jay is also a Portfolio Manager in the firm's exclusive Portfolio Manager Program. After assessing his clients' needs and objectives, he manages their portfolios, applying J.P. Morgan's world-class research capabilities to five investment strategies: an income strategy, a balanced growth and income strategy, an equity income strategy, a long/short strategy and an equity growth strategy. To qualify as a Portfolio Manager, Jay has undergone a screening process and is subject to periodic review on a qualitative and quantitative basis.
Jay has 22 years of experience in the financial services industry. He joined the firm in 2009. Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager and Managing Director at Wachovia/Wells Fargo, where he managed client portfolios on a discretionary basis from 2004 to 2008. From 1999 to 2004, Jay was a Senior Portfolio Manager at U.S. Trust Company, managing client portfolios in both the Los Angeles and Orange County offices. Prior to U.S. Trust, he was a Portfolio Manager and Fund Manager with First American in Nashville, Tennessee, where he managed a highly successful equity-income mutual fund and private client portfolios. He started his financial services career in 1991 with Shearson Lehman Brothers, where he managed both advised and discretionary portfolios.
Jay is highly disciplined and passionate about his work, which is not surprising when you consider that he spent seven years (1982–1989) as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he piloted cargo helicopters. He attended Wake Forest University, and earned a business degree from East Tennessee State University and an M.B.A. from Webster University. Jay and his wife, Tricia, live in Laguna Niguel, CA, with their daughter, Kelli, and son, Jack.
